Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Caswell County Criminal History does not keep or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, server and analytics systems can automatically receive basic technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a visitor's device. They and outside analytics services help combine traffic information, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although disabling them may change how some features operate.
What We Do With This Data
- Directing a submitted query to the selected search provider
- Finding and repairing errors or performance problems
- Measuring which reference pages visitors use
- Operating, maintaining, and improving the website
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Caswell County Criminal History does not own, compile, sell, or store a database of individual criminal records. Its reference material identifies the Caswell County Sheriff, Clerk of Superior Court, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry as separate official custodians. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party criminal profile or consumer report. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Information submitted through a tool is subject to that provider's privacy policy, retention choices, and disclosure practices. Those decisions are outside our control, so review the provider's terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Caswell County offices, North Carolina court and agency pages, legal resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select interest-based ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information can still be received by:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that serve material on the pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
- Search partners that process a query submitted to their tool
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used security measures protect the information we handle. No internet system can be guaranteed secure, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights over personal data depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the operator. North Carolina's Public Records Law, N.C.G.S. Chapter 132, including the special treatment of criminal-investigation information in N.C.G.S. §132-1.4, governs public agencies and official records. It does not turn this private website into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Ask that retained personal data be erased
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Seek a copy of personal data we hold about the requester
